More classic ‘Tell Me Another’ on DVD

Southern Television’s ‘celebrity stories’ series continues on DVD…

Following a release containing series one and two, Renown Pictures has now issued series three and four. Host Dick Hills welcomes star names such as Clive Dunn, Yootha Joyce, Max Wall, Kenneth Williams, Henry Cooper, Roy Castle, Charlie Drake, Tom O’Connor and Peggy Mount to name just a few who provide recollections on a theme.

In Series three, the guests bring their unique wit and wisdom to subjects as diverse as childhood, getting started in show business, life on tour, and their family and friends. What a lot of fascinating friends they have and what a lot of interesting places they’ve been to.

The fourth run sees the stars reminiscing about their time in the Armed Forces, meeting royalty, the early days of television and radio, their work in film, and being mistaken for other performers. They also tell a few tales of their own embarrassing moments. Dick Hills teases out the best in his guests, allowing us to see the real people behind the public personas.

“Your favourite celebrities from yesteryear are back for Series 3 and 4 of this joyous show, recounting their funniest and most memorable anecdotes for your entertainment! Topics include: Our Early Lives; Families & Friends; Royalty;  Anecdotes; Starting in Showbusiness; Life on Tour; Life in the Armed Forces; Careers; Luck & Ambition; Pets & Animals; Radio & Television; The Movies and Personal & Private Stories.”Renown Pictures

In series one and two stars such as Michael Bentine, Jon Pertwee, Diana Dors, Jim Dale, Norman Vaughan, Jimmy Jewel, Barbara Windsor, Arthur Askey, Bill Maynard, Bernard Cribbins, Roy Hudd, Thora Hird, Beryl Reid, Marti Caine and Spike Milligan are just a few of the names who spend time at the Southern Television studios reminiscing.

In series one, laugh and sigh as the stars recall with their own brand of humour and personal magic, the many funny, touching and heartfelt incidents that have happened to them on their way to success. Hear about friends, enemies, idols, girlfriends, landladies, audiences and wives in stories which form a rich tapestry of “life behind the scenes” of show business.
Series 1 is directed by Anthony Howard.

The second outing for the show sees the stars tell stories about some of the strange incidents that have befallen them – stories of wit and wisdom with perhaps a touch of poetic license! Among the stranger tales are those involving Warren Mitchell, a fairy wand and a pair of football boots and Marti Caine and hundreds of lavender bags. Why was Reg Varney stuck in a trap door? Why did George Melly’s Uncle recite the Hunting of the Snark in a tar bath? And how did Spike Milligan fall through a ceiling?

“The perfect gift for fans of television nostalgia, comedy and entertainment. Grab yourself a copy now and re-live the laughs with some of the true legends of stage, screen and TV.”Renown Pictures
