Showbiz 5: Fake photos and Jedward Jibes

Welcome to a newswrap of latest entertainment stories rounded up by the cock in a frock with bite – Penelope Teeth…

Alright happy people, and the miserable buggers who like to complain, lets look at the top five showbiz lowlights of the week.

What’s the point of BBC Verify? I mean they could have verified the royal photo was photoshopped – but instead they aired it without a poke or probe. It was left to other newsagencies to reveal the image had been manipulated by royal fingers, and if the image had been genuine it would be six royal fingers on one hand…

Reuters, Associated Press (AP), Getty Images and Agency France-Presse (AFP) told media outlets to “kill” the photo from their systems and archives. It has to be said there could be a little spite involved too – as the royals taking their own photos does rather remove a lucrative money stream for these picture profiteers.

Former Coronation Street hottie and actor Ryan Thomas and his ice skating partner Amani Fancy were crowned the winners of Dancing On Ice 2024. The performer saw off competition from Made In Chelsea regular Miles Nazaire, who came second, and broadcaster Adele Roberts, who came third, in the ITV1 and STV all-star ice-skating competition.

RTÉ News reported that ‘Thomas final performance was a warrior-themed routine to Believer by Imagine Dragons, which featured dramatic lifts and spins, and secured them a perfect 40 from the judges.’ You note that I reference RTÉ’s news offering as I couldn’t be arsed to watch this shite myself. I mean who needs a poor-man’s SCD? Ice is nice, but only when its in a vodka-cola.

Irish novelty singers of the huge hairdo fame – Jedward – spoke out after Louis Walsh slated the brothers in an episode of Celebrity Big Brother. Talking to fellow housemates Louis, who took the pair to fame and music misfortunes on The X Factor, described John and Edward as “vile”. The twins, who were mentored by Walsh on the ITV search-for-a-singer show in 2009, called his comments “spiteful and disrespectful”. They added, “You’ve got to stand up for yourself when someone tries to throw you under the bus.”

Gemma Collins waded into the debate, having watched CBB with the pair, “Louis, don’t be slagging off my boys. They’re not vile or they wouldn’t be in my hot tub.” Louis of course maybe is a man of many faces. It certainly looks like it from t he apparent cosmetic disaster that has befell his boat-race.

Paul still loves the dogs, even in death. It was heart-warming to see the man we’ve all much admired since the Lily Savage days – Paul O’Grady – prove beyond doubt what a great guy he was, even from beyond the grave.

O’Grady left behind a substantial sum of money to Battersea Dogs Home after his death in 2023. Paul hosted ‘For the Love of Dogs’ for ITV for a decade and in a lasting tribute to his four-legged friends he set aside cash for the charity which the show revolved around. The comedian and presenter passed away after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia on the 28th or March last year. He was 67. O’Grady had been due to join Boom Radio as a regular following his departure, acrimoniously, from Radio 2 the year prior. The Beeb station has turned into a dirty old man and chases youth rather than those more aligned to the age it should be aiming for.

Former RTÉ News journalist Charlie Bird has died at the age of 74 following a long battle with motor neurone disease the broadcaster announced. Following reporting on the fire at the Stardust Nightclub in Dublin in 1981 he became one of the loudest voices in getting justice for the families of the victims of the inferno following seemingly decades of cover-ups and diversion tactics to avoid the truth. He also covered stories ranging from the National Irish Bank tax avoidance scandal, the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 stateside, and the 2004 Indian ocean tsunami.

When he was young, he never needed anyone. Making love was just for fun, those days have gone. Yes, Eric Carmen has departed the music studio for the final time at 74. The American performer first found music fame with group The Raspberries before going solo. He wrote and recorded All By Myself in the 1970s, but it went global in the 1990s when covered by Céline Dion.

He had a big hit in the 1980s thanks to movie Dirty Dancing with the track Hungry Eyes rising up the charts in 1987.

Until next time, stay happy and remember the views here are mine and most certainly not endorsed by ATV Today, as they’re boring farts.
