Susan Calman takes ‘a truly epic cruise’ to Antarctica

In this special two-part adventure, Susan goes to the ends of the earth on a truly epic cruise to Antarctica, travelling over 8,500 miles from her home in Glasgow to South America – and that’s even before she gets onboard the ship.

The adventure begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Susan has just 24 hours to get the most out of this vibrant, bustling Latin American city. The city is home to one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, housed in a stunning old theatre, but to get to it she has to cross the Avenida 9 de Julio, a 16-lane highway dubbed the widest avenue in the world.

Susan visits Ushuaia – the most southerly city in the world – where there’s just time to send a quick postcard home from “the post office at the end of the world”.

Then it’s time to board her ship and, for the next 10 days, Susan explores everything Antarctica has to offer. Her state-of-the-art cruise ship is small enough to get close to nature without disturbing the wildlife and there is plenty to see including whales, dolphins, seals, albatross, and 18 species of penguin. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience as Susan learns about this remote and precious part of the world and what we can do to protect it for the future.
