On this Day 1977: Ben, the Canine Brain of Britain

OTD, January 10th 1977…

ATV Today reported on Ben, the Canine Brain of Britain, owned by the Dibley family from Nottingham, and Bev Smith sees how he won the title.

Bev interviews Alex Dibley about the family dog Ben a Labrador/retriever cross. She talks about the competition they entered and demonstrates how he can find his bone hidden on the sofa (the dog goes off to sit on the toilet seat whilst it is being hidden). Alex’s father is Stan Dibley who is the director of the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont and at the end of the item we see Alex exercising her dog in the water at the centre.
