The Masked Singer proves hit for ITV as Alexander Armstrong clucks off

Close to 5 million viewers tuned into watch Chicken Caesar unmasked as Alexander Armstrong…

Last night on The Masked Singer 4.9 million viewers watched Chicken Caesar become the second character to be unmasked and was revealed to be the comedian and host of Pointless, Alexander Armstrong, making it the most watched programme across all terrestrial channels.

Earlier in the programme, the remaining characters, Air Fryer, Bubble Tea, Owl, Eiffel Tower and Piranha had also taken to the stage to stump the panel and viewers alike.

ITV dominated Saturday night primetime in the first weekend of 2024, with four series peaking at over 3.5 million.  Alongside The Masked Singer, a brand new series of Wheel of Fortune secured a peak of 4.3 million viewers (average 3.8 million).  Meanwhile, Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win returned with 3.7 million peak (average 3.4 million) and Celebrity Catchphrase was back on screens with a peak of 3.6 million (average 2.8 million).

 On taking part in The Masked Singer, Alexander said: “I’ve been longing to do it, every year I’m always getting messages saying are you so and so?  Are you Traffic Cone?  And I say maybe!   I’ve loved it, it’s the beginning of the journey and the end of the journey but what a journey it’s been!”  

Next week’s The Masked Singer heads to the Circus with the panel and Joel’s costumes reflecting this week’s theme!   Guest panellist this week is singer Olly Murs. The characters taking to the stage hoping they can fool the panel and viewers at home are:  Maypole, Cricket, Bigfoot, Dippy Egg and Rat.
