Most memorable movie and television reunions

The top five big and small screen reunions…

Researchers have ranked the most memorable reunions of casts, looking at IMDb ratings to discover which reunions lived up to viewer expectations.

  1. Gavin and Stacey: A Special Christmas (2019) – 8.3/10 IMDb rating

Leading the way as the most memorable reunion of all time is no other than Gavin and Stacey: A Special Christmas, scoring 8.3/10 on IMDb. James Corden and Ruth Jones did not disappoint in bringing the gang back together on Christmas Day in 2019, with the festive special scoring higher on IMDb than the original series.

With the whole of the UK not ready to say goodbye to the show back in 2010, Brits were delighted to have the story continue and revisit the lives of the beloved cast that included Nessa, Smithy, Gavin, Stacey, Pam, Mick, Uncle Bryn, Gwen and Neil, alongside new character introductions.

The show ended with the ultimate cliffhanger, which saw Nessa proposing to Smithy, giving us hope that the story isn’t over just yet.

  1. Friends: The Reunion (2021) – 8.0/10 IMDb rating

It comes as no surprise that Friends: The Reunion follows closely behind for being one of the most iconic reunions according to IMDb, with a score of 8.0/10. With the world mourning the fun-loving, comfort series, everyone couldn’t wait for Rachel, Monica, Joey, Chandler and Ross to get back together on our screens.

The reunion, hosted sadly by James Corden, ran for 90 minutes and saw the cast revisit the sets of the show, share behind-the-scenes secrets and insider information and give their viewers the ultimate piece of gossip – that Aniston and Schwimmer had feelings for each other in season one.

  1. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016) – 7.5/10 IMDb rating

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life takes third spot for being one of the most iconic reunion series, scoring 7.5/10 on IMDb. The TV series brought back the original cast for a limited series of four episodes to allow fans to catch up with their favourite Stars Hollow characters, like the unforgettable Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.

The show which has an episode for each season and set almost a decade after the series, gives both girls the happily ever after fans have always hoped for. Fans had to wait until season 4 of the original show to see Luke and Lorelai finally confess their love for each other, so the revival show really gives the crowd what they want when we see Lorelai marry Luke.

  1. American Reunion (2012) –  6.7/10 IMDb rating

Ranking as the fourth most memorable reunion with a score of 6.7/10 is the hilariously funny American Reunion. Doing the American Pie franchise justice, this film ranked as the second-highest film on IMDb after the first in 1999.

The film series made a huge impact on pop culture with its raunchy humour and coming-of-age themes, and the reunion was everything fans needed to have closure on where their favourite characters ended up. The film didn’t disappoint when it came to its comedy, but also had emotional moments like key characters Oz and Heather getting back together, and Kevin and Vicky reconciling.

  1. And Just Like That (2021-present) –  5.7/10

In 2021, our favourite girl group returned to our TVs with the Sex and The City spin-off series And Just Like That. Whilst the new series scores a lower 5.7/10 compared to the original series at 7.3/10, many viewers are still absolutely thrilled to have Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte back together again.

The show visits the new lives of the cast, addressing the end of chapters for the likes of Steve and Mr Big, and chapters beginning introducing new characters like Che, Seema and Lisa. Whilst we can’t help but miss the iconic Samantha Jones in the series, fans can have peace of mind that she does make a return in season 2’s final for a quick cameo.
