EastEnders ‘The Six’ murder mystery has finally been resolved.
Earlier this year, the BBC One soap teased that a male character would meet their maker at The Queen Vic on Christmas Day.
A flash-forward scene, which aired on February 20th, showed six of Walford’s best-loved matriarchs, including Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Denise Fox (Diane Parish) Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) and Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), reacting to a lifeless man lying on the pub floor.
As Sharon took the man’s pulse, she exclaimed “He’s dead.” But viewers didn’t know who she was referring to when all they could see were the man’s shoes and cufflinks.
The mystery hooked viewers, and the women became known as ‘The Six’.
The soap’s Christmas Day episode finally revealed the identity of the man, after keeping viewers in suspense for ten months. But there was a twist….
With Stacey’s help, Suki fled from her abusive husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), wanting to start a new life with her girlfriend Eve Unwin. The pair ended up at The Vic where Sharon was being comforted by Linda, Kathy and Denise over her aborted wedding to Keanu.
As the women reflected on the day’s events, Suki was encouraged to stand up to Nish so she invited him to the pub to achieve this.
Nish became violent, attempting to manhandle Suki from the pub. The women tried to stop him, with Denise eventually striking him with a bottle.
EastEnders misled viewers into thinking that Nish was the murder victim, but it was Keanu who ultimately ended up dead.
It seemed as if the ten-month mystery was over when Sharon checked Nish’s pulse and declared him dead. But she had made a mistake, as it turned out.
Nish responded to Suki’s CPR attempts while the other women were distracted by the arrival of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).
Earlier in the day, Sharon had walked out on her wedding to Keanu, telling him he was not the father of her son Albie after learning of his involvement in Albie’s kidnapping.
Keanu wanted answers, but upon spotting a seemingly dead Nish, he advanced towards the stairs to get Albie with Sharon quick to block his path.
As things escalated, Linda stabbed Keanu to death with a carving fork to stop him strangling her best friend, Sharon.
The dramatic instalment was widely-praised on social media and was watched by 3.6m viewers, an increase of 400,000 on last year.
EastEnders continues tonight at 8.35pm on BBC One or you can watch the episode on BBC iPlayer now.
