Roman Kemp joins TRIC as President for 2024

Today TRIC – The Television & Radio Industries Club – announced Roman Kemp, as 2024’s TRIC President.

Roman takes over from Rob Rinder, who presented the TRIC Awards earlier in the year.

Roman is a radio broadcaster and TV personality, who is well-known for waking up listeners on weekday mornings by hosting Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp. He first joined Global’s Capital Radio back in 2014. Roman has hosted a number of television programmes including the game show Finish Line with Sarah Greene and The One Show co-presenting with Alex Jones.

He’s entertained the nation with his stint in I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here in 2019 and is a regular face on Celebrity Gogglebox with his Dad, Martin Kemp. He has also used his influence and personal experiences to tackle more serious issues such as men’s mental health with Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency after losing his best friend, Joe Lyons.  TRIC is delighted that Roman has accepted the invitation to be the President in 2024.

At the TRIC Christmas Lunch which is sponsored by Euronics, the home of electronics, the organisation will reveal the winners of the TRIC Outstanding Achievement Award and the TRIC Recognition Award. The audience will also be entertained with a live performance by pop sensation Louise Redknapp.

The TRIC Christmas Lunch 2023 will also celebrate 50 years of Commercial Radio. On the 8th of October 1973, LBC launched the UK’s first ever ILR station which was shortly followed by Capital Radio. 50 years on commercial radio is continuing to boom hitting a historic milestone of a whopping 39.3M listeners in Q3 of 2023, with Smooth radio presenter Angie Greaves taking to the stage to talk about its success.

The celebration continues as TRIC will present the highly accomplished broadcaster Dave Berry with TRIC’s second-ever Recognition Award. Dave has entertained millions of listeners over the years in the UK on XFM, Capital Radio and more recently on Absolute Radio Breakfast Show. His dedication, boundless energy and enthusiasm to entertain the nation every weekday morning is being recognised today with this Award.

Angela Rippon OBE is this year’s winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award. Angela first graced our screens over 50 years ago and has been a familiar voice in British Broadcasting since, with an impressive variety of programmes across both radio and television, not to mention being appointed the first-ever female BBC Newsreader in 1975. Presenting shows over the years, such as Top Gear, The Antiques Roadshow, Come Dancing, Holiday Hit Squad, Crufts, Rip Off Britain, Angela more recently demonstrated her spectacular routines on Strictly Come Dancing. ‘She is an exceptional lady and truly deserves to be recognised with this year’s TRIC Outstanding Achievement Award’ the organisation note.

TRIC has been raising money for Parkinson’s UK and the 45 Aid Society, the lunch will see the handing over of funds raised during the year at the TRIC Awards, last year’s Christmas Lunch and the ERT Awards.

Every year the TRIC Chair and President will choose two new charities to raise funds for at the TRIC Christmas Lunch and its flagship event,the TRIC Awards 2023, which will be held on Tuesday, 25th of June 2024. Today TRIC will be raising money for a charity close to Roman Kemp’s heart – Joe’s Buddy Line, and it will also be raising money for the TRIC Chair’s chosen charity, Starlight.

TRIC was formed in 1931 and established in the early days​ of broadcasting as the Radio Industries Club, and Television.​
