There’s a scaffolding drama in Doctors

This week in Letherbridge…

MONDAY

Al struggles to enter The Mill, feeling triggered after his attack.

Elsewhere Jean Bennett talks to her younger sister Dot Bisset on the phone about her doctor’s appointment. After failing to get Jean to open up, Dot calls The Mill posing as her sister to speak to Nina, who refuses to give Dot confidential information. During the appointment Jean & Nina reflect on losing their husbands, and Jean asks for antidepressants.

Dot rings The Mill again to complain about this. After finding out Dot won’t be visiting her for Christmas, her sister hatches a plan.

TUESDAY

Ruhma tells Kirsty that Jenny has been discharged, so Ruhma visits Jenny. Ruhma checks in with Jenny, who confirms she has SVT. In the Mill, they are getting ready for Christmas, as they have new, recyclable decorations. Bear wishes Scarlett a happy birthday, as Suni overhears, realising he forgot. Al returns to the Mill, so Scarlett, Emma & Kirsty try and make his first day back easy for him. Kirsty invites Al to lunch with her, but he’s not interested, feeling the weight of everyone watching him. Emma chats with Al, but he is similarly disinterested in talking – he’s very closed down.

Simone Rigby gets a call from the police about her mother Thelma, who’s been arrested again. Simone’s embarrassed to be seen with her criminal mother and grows increasingly frustrated as she won’t listen to her. Needing to pick up Thelma’s prescriptions from the Mill, Simone leaves her mum in the car, but while she’s inside, teenager Lewis Dickinson steals Simones car without knowing Thelma is inside. Finding her car gone, Simone stresses, worried that her mum might’ve been the one who took it. She blames Scarlett and Al about her car being stolen because she had to wait for her prescription to be signed. Thelma scares Lewis but surprises him when she says she wants to go for a joyride with him.

WEDNESDAY

Student Josie Canning winds up her housemate Tom Cole who is taking part in an ‘assassins’ competition on uni grounds. Students dress up to hide their identity and try to shoot one another with harmless ‘bullets’. He’s down to the final five and the winner gets to compete in a national competition. Josie is sceptical about this being a good use of time and tells him to get his rib injury seen. They fancy each other but are both worried about telling the other for fear of ruining their friendship.

Russian Studies lecturer Michael Harvey sees one of the assassins and becomes paranoid that someone is after him. He goes to Jimmi and wants help with his insomnia but his paranoia gets the better of him and he leaves in a hurry, passing Tom. Jimmi sees Tom and tells him he needs to rest, but Tom insists on finishing the competition. The competition continues, making Michael’s paranoia and Tom’s rib injury worse.

Jimmi calls Michael to try and get him to agree to some counselling but Michael thinks it’s a trap and tries to leave his office. He sees the assassins playing outside and thinks they’re here for him and decides to exit via some scaffolding instead. Tom injures himself and calls Josie for help.

However, Josie is caught by the scaffolding tower collapsing, which has Michael on it. Both are injured. Jimmi, passing nearby, is first on the scene and tries to help Michael, Josie and some injured builders. He’s assisted by Tom and a passer-by, Harry Drake, who disappears before Jimmi catches his name. Jimmi manages to get everyone safely to hospital. Michael accepts he needs help and Josie tries to rekindle things with Tom but he’s still too angry about the assassin’s game to listen. At The Icon the gang hear about Jimmi’s act of heroism.

THURSDAY

Sid urges Tye to tell Laurence about his Borneo plans, but when he visits, Laurence questions how serious Tye’s plans are. Kirsty sees the posters praising Jimmi’s performance at the Campus and on his arrival, the staff at the Mill congratulate him for his impressive work. When Nina sees Scarlett and Suni kissing at work, she worries about the relationship between them, so she decides to take Scarlett out to lunch. She pressures her into coming and ends up grilling Scarlett about her ambitions and what she wants to do with her life.

18-year-old Natalie visits the Mill for a counselling session with Suni, after she abandoned her daughter in a car park. Social Services are involved, and she’s angry with her partner, who won’t let her see her daughter. Natalie is closed down, only talking to defend herself over what happened. She lies to Suni about where her mum is, but he sees through her, encouraging Natalie to open up about her childhood memories and write a letter to her mum.

Doctors, Monday to Thursday at 1.45 pm on BBC One and the iPlayer.
