The winner of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent 2020, Jon Courtenay is set to embark on a national tour with his brand-new show ‘Bigger’ from February 2024.
In a show of two halves, join Jon for a jam-packed musical and comedy extravaganza. Act one features Jon at the piano with lots of new songs and stories including a tribute to the old vaudevillians, a quirky jazz number featuring every British chocolate bar plus tales of feuds and family that may tug at your heartstrings.
The second half sees Jon open up as fans have never seen him before as he performs a one-man comedy musical, a development of his critically acclaimed limited-run show he performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022. Here, Jon will showcase brand new material, as well as treating fans to renditions of some of his much-loved performances from his time on Britain’s Got Talent – all woven into a musical that reveals the incredible background behind the lyrics.
The winner of BGT 2020, Jon Courtenay is set to embark on a national tour with his brand-new show ‘Bigger’ from February 2024.
The musical focuses on Jon’s story; because behind the smile and the songs that won audiences and the judges’ votes all across the UK, Jon had a secret that he wasn’t sharing. Whilst he was causing a stir on the screen and accomplishing his wildest dreams, just as his life was turning around, it was also being turned completely upside down. Jon had recently received the news that what he had thought was just a mole on his head was actually skin cancer – and was potentially fatal. When Jon took part in the Britain’s Got Talent Final in 2020 – he wasn’t just fighting to win – he was fighting for his life. No one on the show knew – only his closest friends and family were aware of his secret.
Not only did he win the coveted Britain’s Got Talent prize – performing at the Royal Variety Performance, but at the same time he also got the positive news that the cancer had not spread further. However, his story took another twist a few weeks later, when it was discovered that the cancer had in fact found its way to lymph nodes in his neck; he was in for an even bigger fight.
Jon Courtenay will be ‘Bigger’ in 2024
With his family’s unwavering support and a seven-hour operation, he battled on. In April 2022 Jon finally received the all clear and he is now determined to raise awareness of the world’s most common cancer- the fastest growing in the UK, by becoming an ambassador for the charity Skcin – the melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer charity dedicated to the prevention and early detection of all types of skin cancer.
Now he’s excited to tell his story to fans new and old as he embarks on his new, cancer-free journey. Laughter may be the best medicine, but so is immunotherapy.
In 2021 Jon completed his first hugely successful UK theatre tour.
