Following widespread praise with the release of her latest record I Inside the Old Year Dying, PJ Harvey will be returning to London next summer bringing her beguiling live show to Gunnersbury Park.
PJ Harvey:
“I’m grateful to Gunnersbury Park for inviting me to curate this event. I have chosen what I feel to be some of the most exciting artists working today. With them I hope to be able to give the audience an emotional, heartening and uplifting experience.”
So far the only artist to ever win the prestigious Mercury Music Prize twice (once in 2001 and then again in 2011), PJ Harvey’s critical acclaim knows no bounds following a slew of five-star reviews commending the artist’s most recent UK tour, heralding the fascinating and ethereal live experience as otherworldly. The musician released her tenth studio album I Inside the Old Year Dying earlier this year, adding to an illustrious back catalogue.
After releasing her debut album Dry in 1992, Polly Jean Harvey quickly established herself as a vital voice in alternative rock. Famously unafraid to grapple with raw and emotional topics within her lyrics she is both bold and compelling in equal measure. Now heading to Gunnersbury Park next summer, this special outdoor show will be one of the must-see events in London in 2024.
Also announced for Gunnersbury Park today are Grammy-nominated American folk-rock four-piece Big Thief. The treasured outfit will be making the journey to the capital following the release of their sprawling double-LP, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, last year. The band’s revered indie folk musings have garnered them a loyal fanbase since the release of their debut record Masterpiece in 2016, who will welcome them back with open arms as they head to Gunnersbury Park in August.
Showcasing sensitive melodies and rhythmic obsessions on her latest album triplove9…???, Tirzah also joins the bill alongside PJ Harvey and Big Thief next summer. Known for her genre-less and boundary-pushing style, Tirzah writes poems centred on love based on fact and fantasy, real and imagined, often recorded over loops of different feels and instrumentation. She will also be joined on the day by renowned composer Shida Shahabi, following the release of her second album Living Circle. Harnessing an unusually immersive soundscape throughout her work, Shahabi has also scored a selection of short films and feature lengths, making for a poignant addition to the running order.
Shida Shahabi:
“I am really excited to be supporting the inspiring and brilliant PJ Harvey, along with other really nice acts, at Gunnersbury Park in London next August, where we will be performing music from my recent album ‘Living Circle’.”
West London’s Gunnersbury Park has become established as one of London’s favourite outdoor venues and will play host to a series of concerts offering a vibrant mix of music genres in August 2024, including a previously announced show with Tom Grennan and Blossoms on Saturday August 10. In 2023 it hosted sold-out 5-star appearances from boygenius, JOJI, KYGO, Limp Bizkit and N-Dubz, and more brilliant shows are set to be announced for 2024.
