Best-selling author and popular podcast host Giovanna Fletcher and the world-famous Peppa Pig are each making their radio-presenting debuts on Classic FM this weekend as the UK’s classical music station launches its very first Family Classics Day, on Saturday 21st October from 7am.
With half-term for many children and their families this week, Classic FM is hosting a day packed with special music, features and programmes to welcome children and listeners of all ages.
Peppa Pig will be accompanied by her parents, Mummy and Daddy Pig, to host a world radio first – Peppa Pig’s Classical Music Show: A Classic FM Exclusive (4pm to 5pm). The one-off programme of classical music has been specially chosen to appeal to children and grown-ups, featuring well-known pieces such as The Flight of the Bumblebee, extracts from The Carnival of the Animals and Peter and the Wolf, along with several famous ballets. There will also be some surprise visits from other Peppa Pig characters in what promises to be a fun and entertaining hour-long programme.

From 5pm to 7pm, the popular presenter, podcaster and author of Happy Mum, Happy Baby Giovanna Fletcher joins Classic FM to host Classical Calm-Time. Over the course of two hours, listeners will be treated to the most calming and soothing classical music, perfect to help little ones – and mums and dads too – relax at the end of the day before bedtime.

Classic FM’s Alan Titchmarsh kickstarts Family Classics Day at 7am with a special, family-favourite Classic FM Hall of Fame Hour, which includes the Harry Potter soundtrack and two Tchaikovsky ballets – The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Aled Jones follows from 10am with three hours of the best classical music, featuring some of the most famous Disney film scores. Classic FM weekday morning presenter Alexander Armstrong – also the voice of Hey Duggee and Dangermouse – picks up the baton from 1pm for three hours of great classical music for the whole family.
From 7pm, Saturday Night at the Movies with Jonathan Ross – Classic FM’s weekly film music programme – celebrates Family Classics Day with a selection of film scores loved by all generations. Jonathan will showcase some of the latest music to come from the Marvel Universe including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by John Murphy and Spider-Man: No Way Home by Michael Giacchino. DC Comics’ latest movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods by Christophe Beck also features, as well as Disney films, including Pinocchio by Harline & Washington, Pirates of the Caribbean by Klaus Badelt, Mary Poppins by the Sherman Brothers and Inside Out by Michael Giacchino.
Myleene Klass concludes the special day of programmes with three hours of soothing classical music for parents in Calm Classics.
