ITV release trailer celebrating ‘Barbara Knox at 90’

ITV have today released a trailer for their celebration of Corrie icon Barbara Knox as they mark her 90th birthday.

The programme will trace Barbara’s first footsteps into showbiz before her first appearance on Coronation Street in 1964, returning as a regular nine years later.  The street stalwart, who has played the iconic Rita Tanner continuously for over half a century, will join Bradley Walsh as she looks back on the highlights from an illustrious career in television and theatre

Barbara will also share her most treasured memories from the role which has made her famous across the world, revisiting the site of the infamous Tram accident in 1989, and reflecting on the moment she was awarded an MBE in 2010.

The documentary will also feature candid interviews with a number of Barbara’s co-stars past and present, celebrating the soap opera’s longest serving actress and the impact she has had on television screens.  Barbara, notoriously private and guarded about her life away from set, for the first time shares with Bradley memories and even never seen before photos from her childhood.

Before heading to Weatherfield Barbara had appeared in ATV twice-weekly medical drama Emergency Ward 10 as Nurse Fulton and sitcoms The Dustbinmen (Granada), Girls About Town (ATV) and George and the Dragon (ATV) the latter co-starring alongside Sid James and Peggy Mount. She also appeared in ATV comedy drama Mrs. Thursday and Ken Dodd sketch show Funny You Should Say That (ATV).

There were also serious roles in Granada’s period drama A Family At War and Granada’s investigative drama Mr. Rose.

Barbara Knox at 90 airs Friday at 9 pm on ITV1 and STV. Also available on the STV Player and ITVX
