Melanie Hill is joining the cast of BBC One’s Casualty.
The actress is to play no-nonsense Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan Mackenzie in the long-running medical drama.
An hardworking nurse with years of experience, Siobhan joins the Emergency Department at a time when cracks are showing in the team. Determined to pull her team together, Siobhan tackles the issues of the ED head-on, using her knowledge and strength to deliver what her department needs.
Hill’s previous credits include Bread, Waterloo Road and Coronation Street.
The actress noted of her latest role:
“I am delighted to be joining the cast of Casualty and I can’t wait for fans to meet Siobhan. She’s a supremely competent manager, who is firm but fair and expects nothing but the best from her nursing team. However, get on the wrong side of her and she’ll make mincemeat out of you!”
Fans can expect to see Melanie as Siobhan for the first time early in the new year.
In other Casualty news, the show’s executive producer Jon Sen is leaving the show and BBC Studios, with his next venture as yet unknown. A former story producer on the show, Sen returned to the A&E based drama after a controversial three-year stint helming EastEnders between 2019-2022.
The BBC’s Head of Continuing Drama Kate Oates told Broadcast:
“We will be sorry to see Jon leave. He has played a key role in making our continuing dramas a success, from leading the team on EastEnders during the pandemic, to more recently on the multi award-winning Casualty, creating some ground breaking moments like the episode celebrating the series 75th anniversary. We wish him well in his next role.”
