BBC comedy Ghosts announces Christmas Special

A Christmas special will be aired after the upcoming fifth and final series, the Beeb have confirmed.

The Ghosts team posted on social media: “The final series of Ghosts starts on Friday… but there might be one last present under the Christmas tree this year #BBCGhosts”

Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe star in the BBC comedy, which follows a couple who convert a dilapidated country estate into a bed and breakfast, only to find that it is inhabited by its former residents’ spirits.

The Christmas Special in 2022 drew 5.9 million viewers, making it the year’s biggest comedy.

The fifth series will see Alison (Ritchie) and Mike (Smith-Bynoe) explore other means of making ends meet as they struggle to run Button House. The pair will contemplate a new chapter that will impact their relationships with their ghostly housemates, with whom they have become so close over the years.

The cast also includes writers and creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, with Lolly Adefope.

Ghosts is a Monumental Television production in association with Them There for the BBC.

The fifth and final series begins Friday 6 October at 8.30pm on BBC One and will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.
