A newswrap round-up of entertainment lowlights from the world of UK showbiz…
Shock, nay, indeed horror and stunned silence across the showbusiness world when this week it became evident ex-This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield had unfollowed Holly Willoughby on Instagram. To add insult to the injustice of it all the silver fox still follows former show colleagues Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, alongside ITV’s official This Morning online presence on the social media offering.
Oh well, never mind. The world of TV casts aside co-hosts like old cloths. Willoughby will be the new best-friend of whoever replaces Phil on the cum-stained sofa.
Sticking with the daytime theme This Morning was beaten by BBC’s The Repair Shop who took the gong for ‘best daytime show’ – making it the first time in 12 years the show has walked away empty-handed, Sky News reported.
I’m sure there were other worthy winners at the award event, but do any of you really care? No, I thought not. But let’s celebrate show of the day, week and maybe even decade as BBC One’s Happy Valley and its star Sarah Lancashire picked up three gongs at the NTA’s.
After a decade on Gogglebox, Stephen Webb and his husband Daniel Lustig are leaving the Channel 4 show. In a statement the broadcaster noted, “After a brilliant and illustrious time on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have decided that now is the right time to explore life beyond the sofa and leave the show,” it added, As one of the original Goggleboxers, Stephen has entertained the nation with his hilarious quips since the show first started in 2013, sharing his opinions on the best and biggest TV events of the last ten years…”
I never thought I’d see the day where the words ‘brilliant and illustrious’ would be used in connection with Gogglebox – I mean you’re just sitting on your arses making snide comments about television, and getting paid for it. Who would want to do that? Erm… (Irony sweetie). Although here we do at least celebrate recently dead celebrities, so its not all quick with and smart remarks.
Over at BBC Wales Nigel Harman has quit Casualty after just one year. The Daily Star reports ‘The TV hunk, who played consultant Max Cristie has quit the medical saga‘. But as one heads out the A&E exit another bounds back into the Holby city based series with the return of Sunetra Sarker who was last seen on the show in 2016.
And finally we haven’t any showbiz stiffies today, instead its happy news as Jack Whitehall has confirmed the birth of his and girlfriend Roxy Horner’s daughter in an adorable Instagram post showcasing the newborn. Digital Spy reported.
