Channel 4 return to the ‘Geordie Hospital’

Channel 4 documentary series, Geordie Hospital, returns for a brand new series this week.

The six-episode second series celebrates more of Newcastle Hospitals’ joyous staff as they work a shift, from world class medics transforming lives, to the dedicated support teams who make it possible.

Dame Jackie Daniel, Chief Executive of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust:

“We were delighted to welcome the cameras back to Newcastle Hospitals last year, to film series two of Geordie Hospital. It’s a pleasure to see our extremely valued and hardworking clinical and support staff – and for the first time – our midwives, as they provide the very best care for our patients. I hope it provides a glimpse into the care and compassion that the team provide everyday.  I’m very grateful to all of our staff and patients who gave their time to help make this programme.  We really hope you all enjoy it.”

The incredible staff cast pulling together to deliver excellent care are based in every corner of the hospital – including porters and surgeons, housekeepers and midwives, nurses and fruit stall sellers. All gifted with their unique Geordie warmth and sense of humour.

Newcastle is home to one of the biggest and best Hospital Trusts in the UK. Every minute of every day, there are amazing examples of triumph against adversity, pioneering medical approaches, phenomenal skills, and loving, tender care.

Stories include: top heart surgeon, Asif, performing valve replacement surgery on 13 year old Seb; surgeon, Peter, operating on 3 month old Amelia, who has been born with a cleft lip and palette; neurosurgeon, Claire, operating on Jen, who has spina bifida, which is tangling the nerves in her spinal column, and hospital chaplain, Katie, training up new staff welfare dog, Fern.
