World of Wonder has revealed the host and co-host of Drag Race Germany.
Barbie Breakout and Co-Host Gianni Jovanovic. Barbie and Gianni will be in charge of guiding the contestants who seek to take the crown and become Germany’s next drag superstar. The panel is completed by Dianne Brill who is a regular judge in all episodes.
Drag Race Germany is the first German version of the television show and cultural sensation RuPaul’s Drag Race. In this show, drag queens from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland will compete in challenges involving acting, fashion, comedy and more in hopes of becoming the next drag superstar and winning the grand cash prize.
The first episode will be available to stream in the UK and globally on WOW Presents Plus (excluding Germany, Austria and Switzerland where it will air on Paramount+), starting 5 September 2023. The series will also be available on Paramount+ stateside at a later date.
Barbie Breakout: Respected and loved by the community, Barbie Breakout is an influential and passionate activist for queer (drag) representation and HIV awareness. The successful author, podcaster, influencer and presenter first gained nationwide attention for sewing her mouth shut in protest against anti-LGBTQ legislation 10 years ago.
Gianni Jovanovic: Gianni Jovanovic is an entrepreneur, activist, and performer. A member of the Romani community, he faced discrimination from an early age. He came out as gay in his mid-20s, leading to temporary estrangement from his family. Now a grandfather, he’s been happily married to his husband for 17 years. Gianni advocates for the Romani and Sinti community and fights for LGBTQI+ rights for People of Colour, stressing the importance of their voices being heard in society.
Dianne Brill: Dianne Brill is renowned as a versatile figure in fashion, modeling, literature and nightlife. A model for esteemed brands like Thierry Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier, she was a fixture in New York City’s 1980s club scene. Andy Warhol named her “Queen of the Night,” showcasing her influence as his muse. Brill’s impact spans multiple realms, and she now resides in Zurich after marrying German film producer Peter Völkle in the 1990s and raising three children.
