No early release for two episodes of EastEnders this week

Two of this week’s EastEnders episodes (Wednesday 21st June and Thursday 22nd June) won’t be available on BBC iPlayer ahead of their BBC One airings.

Since the start of the year, the soap has premiered its four weekly instalments online at 6am ahead of their linear broadcasts.

Although some fans have bemoaned the loss of a ‘shared viewing’ experience, others have embraced the early releases which have reduced the impact of the traditional 7.30pm showing clashing with Emmerdale on ITV1.

However, the BBC has been known to hold back episodes when big storylines are playing out, and this week will see further instances of this as the soap delves into George Knight’s (Colin Salmon) past, revealing the truth behind the disappearance of his wife Rose.

A spokesperson for the soap said:

“Let’s make it a Knight to remember. The truth about George Knight’s family is set to be revealed. To find out what really happened all those years ago, Wednesday and Thursday’s episode of EastEnders will air on BBC One and iPlayer simultaneously at 1930 so that audiences can watch the truth unfold together.”

Following her recent experience with Janine, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) is wary of her mother’s fiancé, who is now living and working with her.

Suspecting there is more to Rose’s abandonment of her family than meets the eye, Linda approaches Phil (Steve McFadden) for advice, and he enlists Callum (Tony Clay) to investigate. What will they find out?
