Screenwriters Everywhere

The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) will today join writers and other workers around the world for Screenwriters Everywhere.

The event is a global day of solidarity and action. These allies stand in support of the 11,500 members of Writers Guild of America West and Writers Guild of America East, who have been on strike since 2 May 2023.

Actions are planned in more than 20 countries, and will take place at locations including the European Parliament, Brussels; National Assembly, Bulgaria; FoxTelecolombia, Colombia; Eiffel Tower, France; Cologne Cathedral, Germany; Tel Aviv Central Library, Israel; Estudios Churubusco, Mexico; EYE Film Museum, Netherlands; Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Poland; Filmoteca de Catalunya and Valenciana, Spain; the Riksdag, Sweden and Leicester Square, London, United Kingdom.

There will also be a large international social media presence on Twitter – including photos and videos – on the #ScreenwritersEverywhere hashtag

Screen and television writers in the US have been on strike since 2 May because their employers like Disney, Netflix and Amazon are refusing to pay them fairly. The struggle for fair compensation and protections against these global streaming companies impacts us all.

Writers’ Guild of Great Britain protest takes place today at 1pm, Leicester Square, London.
