Malcolm Munro reports for Central News on Britain’s first junior television workshop in Nottingham, launched in conjunction with Central Television, for children between the ages of eleven and fifteen.
Interview with Sue Nott, workshop leader, who teaches the children drama, movement and speech, about the workshop and the visits from television producers searching for budding stars. Performers from the workshop appeared on programmes such as Rod Hull’s Pink Windmill Show, Crossroads, Coronation Street and various CITV productions. A Birmingham branch of the workshop opened in 1984.
The workshops went on their own way following the closure of Central Television’s network studios in Nottingham in 2005. The Birmingham branch closed in 2008. The Nottingham outlet, now just The Junior Television Workshop, became a charity in 2012.
