EastEnders wins Best Soap at the British Soap Awards 2023

EastEnders has won Best Soap at the British Soap Awards for the first time since 2015.

The awards, which were held this evening at The Lowry in Salford, will air on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Tuesday 6th June.

The BBC One soap won four prizes in total – all voted for by the public – also picking up gongs for Best Leading Performer (Danielle Harold/Lola Pearce), Best Young Performer (Lillia Turner/Lily Slater) and Best Villain (Aaron Thiara/Ravi Gulati).

Coronation Street, however, was the top soap of the night with six awards in total, including Best Family (the Platts) and Best Single Episode (The Acid Attack).

This years’ Outstanding Achievement Award went to Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon in Emmerdale, while Hollyoaks‘ casting director Peter Hunt picked up the “off screen” equivalent as well as Best Storyline for the exploits of Incel Eric.

Doctors‘ Chris Walker (Rob Hollins) and Jan Pearson (Karen Hollins) picked up the award for Best On Screen Partnership.

Best Storyline – Incel Eric targets Mason and Maxine (Hollyoaks)

Best Dramatic Performance – Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley in Coronation Street)

Best On-Screen Partnership – Chris Walker & Jan Pearson (Doctors)

Best Comedy Performer – Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer in Coronation Street)

Best Young Performer – Lillia Turner (Lily Slater in EastEnders)

Outstanding Achievement Award (On Screen) – Mark Charnock (Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale)

Best Newcomer – Channique Sterling-Brown (Dee Dee Bailey in Coronation Street)

The Tony Warren Award (Off-screen) – Peter Hunt (Hollyoaks’ Casting Director)

Best Family – The Platts (Coronation Street)

Best Leading Performer – Danielle Harold (Lola Pearce in EastEnders)

Best British Soap – EastEnders

After a few years of being transmitted live, the ceremony returned to a pre-recorded format this year, with transmission scheduled for 8pm this Tuesday.

Other changes saw presenter and singer Jane McDonald take the reins as host after disgraced Phillip Schofield left ITV after admitting that he had an affair with a much-younger colleague at This Morning.
