David Ames aims high with Hollyoaks

Carter Shepherd – Freya’s father – to arrive in the village in July, Ellie Henry returns as series regular…

Television and stage actor David Ames has joined Hollyoaks in a  new role as Carter Shepherd, the new head teacher of Hollyoaks High.

David Ames:

“I am incredibly excited to join the Hollyoaks cast as such an intricately layered character with a very poignant and vital storyline to come.”

Ames has a legion of fans within continuing drama, having played the much-loved role of Dominic Copeland in Holby City as well as recently playing a guest lead on BBC Doctors as guest lead Marcus Bayidge.

David’s most recent TV appearance sees him playing George in The Madame Blanc Mysteries on CH5. He also travelled through space and time with David Tennant in the Doctor Who Easter Special ‘Planet of the Dead.’

Carter is taking over Hollyoaks’ high school, previously run by Sally St Claire and then stewarded by Nancy Osborne. He arrives in the village to connect with his daughter Freya Calder, played by Ellie Henry, who is reprising her role.

In previous Hollyoaks storylines, Freya was injured in a car accident caused by John Paul McQueen.

Ellie Henry:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to Hollyoaks! Last year saw a lot of life-changing events for Freya, she is now navigating life as a disabled young person without her mum which gives us so much to explore. She’s also had a little transformation in the time she’s been away which is exciting. We have so much coming up this year that I cannot wait for people to see!”
