Jane McDonald to host The British Soap Awards 2023

ITV has announced Phillip Schofield’s replacement.

Jane McDonald has been announced as the host of this years’ British Soap Awards.

The awards, which are being held this Saturday at The Lowry in Salford, will air on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Tuesday 6th June.

Jane McDonald said

“Oh my god…..everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale, so this is just a dream come true. I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them – roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”

The ceremony’s usual host, Phillip Schofield, resigned from ITV on Friday (26th May) and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting that he had an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a young male runner from This Morning.

The British Soap Awards were launched in 1999 and celebrate the best of the genre from the previous 12 months. The public and a panel of experts decide the recipients of awards including Best Leading Actor, Best Storyline, and Best Newcomer.

Aside from outgoing host Phillip Schofield, previous presenters include Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, Des O’Connor and Melanie Sykes, and Paul O’Grady.
