Eamonn Holmes claims This Morning staff ‘hated’ Phillip Schofield

In an exclusive interview with GB News, Eamonn Holmes has hit out further at Phillip Schofield, claiming he was disliked behind the scenes of This Morning where they both previously worked.

Schofield resigned from ITV on Friday (26th May) and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an “unwise, but not illegal” affair.

In the wake of his resignation, some ex-This Morning employees have made their opinions known. The show’s former resident GP, Ranj Singh, criticised the show’s “toxic” culture, saying he raised concerns about “bullying and discrimination” two years ago and felt “managed out” as a result.

In an astonishing tweet, Holmes called Schofield a ‘delusional liar’ after he posted a statement on Instagram yesterday (29th May) insisting that there was no toxicity behind the scenes.

Eamonn later criticised Schofield further on Dan Wootton’s GB News show, saying:

“He’s either deluded, or he’s lying [about the lack of toxicity]. And he has admitted he tells lies, and he tells a lot of lies. In life, I have always had this belief that a lie unchallenged becomes the truth.

“Is he so detached from real life at This Morning that he didn’t realise what was going on? He is a complete and utter dyed in the wool narcissist, everything is about him.

“No mate, you’ve had it all your way for too long’.”

Disgraced Schofield

Left: Eamonn presented This Morning every Friday with wife Ruth between 2006-2021. Right: Ruth also occasionally hosted with Phillip Schofield.

Eamonn went on to accuse Phillip of being responsible for the toxicity, noting that he “created an atmosphere” on This Morning “where people hated him”.

“This nonsense that he wrote today about toxicity, about how (This Morning) is a happy place or whatever, holy God, what planet does this man live on? He created an atmosphere where people hated him. People would avoid him in the corridor. He didn’t look at anybody, didn’t know anybody’s name. Holly doesn’t know people’s names either. This is legendary within the production team, how distant they are, and how they just don’t care.”

On Saturday 20th May, Schofield announced that he had “stepped down” from This Morning amid reports of a rift with co-host Holly Willoughby. A week later, he admitted to having had an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a young male runner from the show.

ITV faces questions over how much it knew about the affair, but Schofield has not implicated the broadcaster, apologising for lying to them, his family, and the media. Due to the fact that the young runner was his junior on the daytime production, his behaviour has been criticised as an ‘abuse of power’.

According to ITV, it investigated rumours of the affair in early 2020, and both parties “categorically and repeatedly” denied that anything had happened.

“Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip’s then agency YMU. In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour,” the broadcaster said.
