Lucy Benjamin to reprise Lisa Fowler role in EastEnders

Actress Lucy Benjamin is to reprise her role as Lisa Fowler in EastEnders for a short stint.

Lisa will return to the Square along with her 3-year-old granddaughter Peggy, spelling trouble for Peggy’s father Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

Speaking about her return, Lucy said:

“I can’t wait to return as Lisa after leaving for Portugal with Louise and Peggy in 2019. No doubt, in true Lisa fashion, she will bring plenty of drama for many of the characters, which is why playing her is such a delight.”

As Lisa, Lucy originally appeared on the show from 1998-2002, then returned briefly in 2003, 2010, 2017 and 2019. Lisa was last seen leaving the Square with her daughter Louise and baby Peggy amid the fallout from Keanu and Sharon Watts’ affair in January 2020.

The Mitchells believed Keanu was dead – murdered by Martin Fowler (James Bye) on their orders as revenge for humiliating both Phil and Louise.

Having secretly been granted a stay of execution, Keanu later turned up alive, but not before Lisa had taken Louise and Peggy to Portugal to start a new life, fearing a fragile Louise could go to prison for her role in the murder.

Lisa was furious with Sharon and Keanu when she discovered their betrayal of Louise in 2019

There are no details about what lures Lisa back to the Square, with the only information being that she will cause problems for Keanu, who hasn’t seen his daughter in three years.

EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw said:

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Lisa back for a short while as she and Peggy cause trouble between the happy couple, Sharon and Keanu.”

Lisa is best remembered for her tempestuous relationship with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) whose cruel behaviour led to her being unmasked to an audience of 22 million viewers as the culprit in the Dallas-inspired Who Shot Phil? storyline in April 2001.

EastEnders airs Monday-Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
