Larry Harris reports for ATV Today from RAF Coningsby where an extensive refit has been carried out on the last remaining flying Lancaster Bomber, The City of Lincoln, after it was discovered that metal rivets had corroded, making the aircraft dangerous in the air.
Larry speaks with Squadron Leader Richard Jones about the months of work involved, difficulties encountered in obtaining materials and spare parts and the dedication of the men involved. He then talks to Corporal Les Perrin, a member of the Lancaster’s regular crew at air displays about the emotional background to working on the Second World War aircraft.
