Rita Simons reprises role as Roxy Mitchell for special EastEnders scenes

Actress Rita Simons has reprised her role as Roxy Mitchell in EastEnders.

With the breakdown of Denise and Jack’s marriage tearing the Branning family apart and exacerbating Amy’s mental health struggles in recent weeks, the family attend a group therapy session where Amy is encouraged to open up about her emotions surrounding the loss of her mum.

Amy zones out and Roxy appears as a figment of her imagination…

“I’m thrilled to welcome the fabulous Rita back to the iconic role of Roxy Mitchell for these special scenes. Although the character was last seen on-screen in January 2017, Roxy still remains a fan favourite. We know our audiences will be thrilled at her short return as Amy seeks some all-important answers from her mum at this point in the storyline.”

Rita previously reprised the role of Roxy in a voice cameo in May 2019 when her ex-husband Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky) listened to a message from her on his phone.

She was last seen in the soap in January 2017 when Roxy drowned to death along with sister Ronnie who had just married Jack Branning. Roxy failed to resurface after jumping into a deserted hotel swimming pool, while Ronnie’s attempts to rescue her were impeded by her wedding dress and she eventually drowned herself.

EastEnders airs Roxy’s return tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One
