Former Emmerdale star Dale Meeks dies aged 47

The North East born actor also starred in Byker Grove and The Hunt for Raoul Moat.

Emmerdale and The Hunt for Raoul Moat star Dale Meeks has died aged 47.

The actor’s death was announced by a family member on Facebook.

“So unbelievably sad. Brother in Law, mucca, side kick and just the BEST friend a lad could have wished for. RIP Dale Meeks. So much less to laugh about now you’re not there to share it with.

“Thanks everyone for all the beautiful messages and memories you have been sharing. The support of Dale’s friends has been so incredibly strong over these chaotic, heartbreaking final hours, I can only stand in awe.”

In Emmerdale, he played Simon Meredith, a friendly fishmonger who overcame a number of setbacks to woo sharp-tongued Nicola Blackstock (Nicola Wheeler), whom he affectionately called “Frosty”. He appeared in the ITV1 soap between 2003 and 2006.

He also starred in Byker Grove in the early 1990s, and he recently played the role of Rory Sutcliffe in ITV’s The Hunt for Raoul Moat.

In 2005, Meeks and his Emmerdale co-star Mark Charnock won Celebrity Stars in their Eyes as the Blues Brothers, with Dale also being the frontman of South Tyneside blues act Shake Ya Tail Feather.

Meeks also had roles on the stage including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies and a tour of Chicago.
