Danny Dyer has hosted this experimental new competition where eight celebrities have given up not just the limelight – but light altogether.
Danny Dyer:
“They came to me and asked me if I was interested in hosting a brand new reality show, and I was like, “Okay.” And they said, “Basically we’re going to lock eight celebrities in the pitch black for eight days.” And I was like, “F**king sign me up, it sounds amazing!” It depended on the celebrities for me as well, I wanted it to be interesting people. One of my heroes of all time is Paul Gascoigne, and so as soon as I heard his name I was like, “This is amazing.”
In a world first, Chris Eubank, Paul Gascoigne, Max George, Nicola Adams, Chris McCausland, Scarlett Moffatt, Donna Preston and Chloe Burrows entered a pitch-black bunker to eat, sleep and survive for eight days in complete darkness.
Following Chris Eubank’s exit last night, only Paul Gascoigne, Scarlett Moffatt, Chris McCausland, Donna Preston, Chloe Burrows, Max George and Nicola Adams remain…but will they all make it to the end…
Tonight it’s the final, and the celebrities are more reliant on each other than ever. As they compete to earn some precious moments in the light, the bond within the group is at an all-time high. But that could change when they’re presented with a leap of faith task. Every single member must complete it – or the entire group face having their time in the experiment brought to an abrupt end. And when it’s all over, who will the group vote as the winner?
In this episode, Gazza provides some insight into his previous addiction:
“Unfortunately, I’ve got this addictive personality. I stopped going to rehab for stupid reasons you know. I was like, that’s the addict side of us so I went for Calpol. Calpol has 0.00 and it’s 1% of alcohol. And I thought well if I buy ten bottles, that’s like having nearly a pint. I was going round chemists and saying listen, I didn’t wanna tell anyone but I’ve got nine kids, I need Calpol. They were saying nine kids, what you doing with nine kids? I went yeah but don’t tell my family. It costs us a lot of money in maintenance. And eventually, I was barred from all the chemists I think in Newcastle!”
Max also reflects on his bromance with Gazza, “Gazza, I’ve made a friend for life there. I don’t think he even knows actually how much. He’s helped me and Gazza was everything and way more you know, really kind. I’ve got a lot of things to sort out in my own life. I can’t stop thinking about Tom and feeling all that and being in darkness isn’t nice.”
Chris McCausland looked back at their final day in the dark and said:
“It’s been an emotionally draining day, you know. Everybody recapping what they’ve got out of it and their own kind of journeys this week. I think I’m anticipating the emotional comedown that I will inevitably get after this. I’ll miss having the purpose I’ve had this week. I’ve felt like I’ve been of value to people in—in ways that either I’m not used to or in…in ways that I didn’t really expect and it’s over.”
The final episode of Scared of the Dark airs tonight (Thursday 20 April) at 9pm on Channel 4. Catch up on the first four episode now on All4
