Cheryl Baker, who rose to fame with pop group The Fizz (previously Bucks Fizz) after they were crowned winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, is set to appear as herself in an episode of EastEnders.
How Cheryl finds herself in Walford remains to be seen, but she will arrive as the residents of Albert Square are celebrating the highly-anticipated arrival of the Eurovision Song Contest in the UK.
Speaking on her guest appearance, Cheryl Baker said:
“I was so thrilled to be asked to take part in an episode of EastEnders. It’s a British institution, for goodness sake! As a real-life ‘Eastender’, I have loved the show since day one and I literally can’t wipe the smile from my face.”

In 1981, Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Making Your Mind Up’. The group was formed in January 1981 specially for the contest, and consisted of Bobby G, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan, and Jay Aston.
Following ‘Making Your Mind Up’, they scored two more UK number ones, ‘The Land of Make Believe’ and ‘My Camera Never Lies’.
Their other top 10 hits include ‘Now Those Days Are Gone’, ‘If You Can’t Stand the Heat’, ‘When We Were Young’, and ‘New Beginning (Mamba Seyra)’.
The Eurovision Song Contest returns in May and will take place in Liverpool on behalf of current winners Ukraine. Liverpool was chosen as host city due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The UK last hosted the contest in 1998 in Birmingham following Katrina and the Waves’ victory with ‘Love Shine A Light’ in 1997.
