A national printer’s strike halted the production of the Dudley Herald newspaper for the first time in 114 years. The local journalists decided to find a different way to get the news out to the people, so they appointed a town crier to announce the news stories of the day to the public in Dudley’s marketplace.
ATV Today’s John Swallow spoke to a journalist, Robin Wilson, about the spirit which prompted them to approach the town crier so that their newspaper would reach the public in some form.
John also talked to the town crier and we see him in action reading the news aloud and ringing his bell.
