GODLEY GONG
Sir Billy Connolly has praised fellow Scottish comedian Janey Godley as a “great comedian” as she was revealed as the winner of the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award.
Terminally ill Janey was presented with the gong at the 2023 Glasgow International Comedy Festival, just minutes after she closed the show at the closing gala at the King’s Theatre. Godley was part of a selection of names nominated by a panel, with Billy left to choose the winner.
The others on the shortlist for the award were Scott Agnew, Paul Black, Craig Hill, Kieran Hodgson, and Susie McCabe.
SCHOFIELD’S COURT
Philip Schofield took time off from This Morning last week and is on his usual Easter break next week which has left a lot of people not really missing the often smug mug from their screens. The Teflon-esq telly star probably is lacking any grins, smirks or smiles however as family matters have been hitting the headlines.
Phillip’s brother is on trial charged with sexual offences involving a child. Timothy Schofield, 54, is on trial at Exeter Crown Court accused of eleven sexual offences which are said to have occurred between October 2016 and October 2019. The accused wept as he told a court how he phoned his famous brother to reveal what had been going on.
DOMINIC TWAT
Do you know the only time you can trust a Tory? When they’re dead, and if Maggie Thatcher came through on the Ouija board I’d not believe a word she declared there either.
Sadly this week it wasn’t the demise of the nasty party, but the sad passing of the wonderful Paul O’Grady, but even in a half-arsed tribute the Tories couldn’t get it right and friends of the late comedian – such as Carol Vorderman – were left furious with Dominic Raab after a name gaffe.
Raab managed to mix up Paul with Larry Grayson, who died in 1995. Vorderman said Dominic Raab had a “special place in Hell” and deliberately got his name wrong, calling him ‘DominDick Arse’
The one positive that has come from the outpouring of love towards Paul O’Grady, who died on Tuesday aged 67, is donations to Battersea, the animal charity that was the backdrop to his show For The Love Of Dogs. The charity announced that donations had passed £100,000.
