Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach leaving role as Faye Windass
Ellie Leach is leaving Coronation Street after 12 years as Faye Windass.
According to The Sun, the actress’ final scenes on the soap will air in July.
The tabloid notes that the character has been “written out”, however the door will be left open for a potential return in the future.
An insider revealed:
“Ellie’s been on the soap since she was 10 years old so it’s all she’s known, she sees the cast like an extension of her family. She’s sad to be leaving, but grateful that her character won’t be killed off. She’s going to have a go at trying other acting roles for a bit.”
Faye’s storylines have included teenage pregnancy and early menopause.
In a case of mistaken identity, the character also spent time behind bars for attacking Adam Barlow. Her intended target was Ray Crosby, who attempted to rape her.
In 2015, Faye gave birth at the age of 13 to a daughter, Miley, but decided she wasn’t ready to become a mother. Faye let Miley go with her father, Jackson Hodge, and his parents as they immigrated to Canada.
Faye recently reconnected with Miley after Jackson sent her a text message to let her know he was back in the UK. Faye was reluctant to see her daughter, so Jackson approached Tim (Faye’s father) and his wife Sally instead.
As Faye witnessed Tim seeing Miley, she was shocked, but she later tentatively spent time with Miley herself.
Leach said of the storyline:
“I was really excited. I feel like it will be good for Faye to try and build a bond with her daughter after she has had so much heartbreak over the years. I have looked back at pictures of the scenes of when I gave birth as Faye and some christening pictures and I was holding a baby and now it’s like, she’s all grown up. I just can’t believe how long ago the teenage pregnancy storyline was because it literally feels like two minutes ago.”
