According to research, Nottingham has more Spoons per person than any other UK city, despite London having 11 times as many. Wetherspoons are beloved by Brits for providing cheap and cheerful food and drinks, with the quintessentially British chain having a vast amount of pubs up and down the country, often in unusual venues.
Researchers at KingCasinoBonus.uk have crunched the numbers to uncover in which UK city you have the highest odds of running into a Wetherspoons pub. 25 of the largest UK cities were investigated, based on the population size. The number of pubs with the city in question listed in the venue’s address were counted and cross-referenced with the estimated population (Source: Investment Monitor) of each location to rank the cities in terms of where has the most Spoons per person.
Which UK city has the most Wetherspoons per person? Nottingham took the top spot having 11 Spoons throughout the city, which is one Wetherspoons pub for every 28,000 people.
Nottingham is renowned for being a vibrant hub for students, as data shows that 1 in 7 of the city’s population are full-time university students (Source: Nottingham Insight), which is 14% of Nottingham’s population. Therefore, Nottingham’s range of Wetherspoons across the city will be a huge hit for students looking for a budget friendly, post-lecture hangout spot.
One of Nottingham’s pubs ‘The Lady Chatterley’ in Eastwood is named after the most famous novel by Nottingham’s own D.H Lawrence, ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ (Source: JD Wetherspoons), making it a favourite for fans of the famous novelist.
Following on is Leeds in second place with 13 Wetherspoons and Cardiff in third place, having eight Wetherspoons. Leeds has the second largest amount of Spoons outside of London, with one pub for every 38,000 people, so it is unsurprising Leeds is second overall.
Which UK city has the least Wetherspoons per person? Out of the 25 cities investigated, it is Belfast and Bradford that were found to have the lowest number of Wetherspoons per person, with only one of the pubs in each city. That means that you’re 11 times more likely to run into a Spoons in Nottingham than Belfast or Bradford.
Stoke, Leicester and Northampton are the following cities with the lowest numbers of Spoons per person, having only four Spoons combined.
The results are likely due to the cities only having just one Spoons pub compared with their fairly large population size; Bradford coming in 12th and Belfast coming in 14th place as the largest populations in the 25 cities that were investigated.
Yet despite London having the highest number of Spoons, (a mighty 126 to be exact, which is 11 times as many pubs as Nottingham), the UK’s capital ranked just 14th as the most Spoons per person.

Commenting on the findings a spokesperson from KingCasinoBonus.uk:
“Wetherspoons is a beloved British institution that offers food and drink at an attractively low cost making them extremely popular throughout the UK. It can sometimes feel like you cross a Wetherspoons around every corner in some cities, so to put this to the test, we crunched the numbers to find out which UK city has the highest number of Spoons, respective to the population.”
“Our research shows that when in Nottingham, you will have the highest odds of you running into a Wetherspoons, with 11 pubs located throughout the city. London is known for being the most densely populated city in the UK, with an estimated 90,000 currently living in the city. In line with this, London has a whopping 126 Wetherspoon pubs, exceedingly more than any other UK city, yet still comes in 14th place in terms of how many Spoons per person there are.”
