ITV news has today announced the appointment of Emily Wilson to the position of Head of UK News, welcoming her back to ITN after two years.
Andrew Dagnell, Editor, ITV News:
“Emily is an outstanding journalist and an inspiring editorial leader. She is passionate about telling stories from across the regions and has also has a huge range of experience in other roles working on input, output and digital, at home and abroad, including Senior Home Editor, Online Site Editor, Washington News Editor, Programme Editor and Politics Producer. With her sharp journalistic and strategic instincts, she will bring a fresh perspective to our operation.”
Emily, who has over 25 years of experience, working across TV, radio and digital, began her career at the BBC, first at BBC Scotland before moving to Radio 4’s Today programme, where she was an Output Editor.
She then spent 16 years at Channel 4 News, where she rose through the ranks to become Head of Home News. In that role, Emily oversaw the programme’s coverage of some of the biggest domestic stories of the last five years, including Covid-19, Grenfell, the Manchester Arena attack, Brexit, the General Elections of 2017 and 2019 and the fallout of their Cambridge Analytica investigation.
Emily was also instrumental in developing Channel 4 News‘s reputation for impactful investigations and original journalism, including their award-winning series into homeless deaths, which resulted in the ONS collecting data on it for the first time. Most recently Emily has been working at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, where she was Editor of the Bureau’s Local division, leading a team of reporters, data journalists and community organisers to produce data-driven, community-focused investigations, using a combination of FOI, data scraping and open-source data analysis.
