The Witches of Salem

Narrated by actor Mark Strong Witches of Salem unravels the hysteria that unfolded during the Salem witch trials and led to the execution of 20 women in an affluent New England community.

This docu-drama is a real-life horror story about young teenage girls tragically accused and convicted by the shadowy adults lurking in the background. The series draws on extensive historical documents and court records to bring this drama to life.

SKY History, 9pm

Jamie’s £1 Wonders

In this second episode of the series, Jamie shares clever ways to make our meat stretch further across not just one but two delicious dishes, as he makes gorgeously versatile meatball kebabs on a bed of creamy lentils and rice, and a Friday night treat of crispy pork noodles with sticky ginger and garlic, making super-speedy homemade noodles from just flour and water; great value for money without compromising on flavour.

Jamie also transforms an everyday veg into a magnificent carrot puff pastry centrepiece and makes big savings by celebrating the store cupboard with a meal-for-one from tins that we can have on hand for ages, and finishes off with a super humble crumble from the freezer that’s guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.

Channel 4, 8pm

Paula

Paula Yates, TV presenter, author and journalist, was one of the most famous British women of the 1980s and 1990s. Appearing on some of the most iconic TV shows of the era, presenting both The Tube and The Big Breakfast on Channel 4, Yates redefined what it was to be a woman onscreen.

Paula both celebrates Yates, but also explores the pressures she faced, and gives her a voice in the telling of her story. In this first episode, of two, the documentary focuses on Paula’s rise to fame, her ground-breaking appearances on The Tube, interviewing some of the biggest pop stars in the world, and the huge fame she and her husband Bob Geldof experienced after the success of global charity Live Aid.

The second episode airs tomorrow night.
