Ruthie Henshall joins the cast of Coronation Street

Ruthie Henshall is joining the cast of Coronation Street in a guest role.

Henshall, who is famed for her theatre roles, has signed up to play Estelle, an old friend of Glenda Shuttlesworth (Jodie Prenger).

Ruthie Henshall:

“This is one of the most enjoyable guest roles of my career. Everyone is so welcoming and I can’t believe after years of the street being in my life that I finally get to tread the cobbles. Getting to act with Jodie was a joy and every member of the cast was welcoming and kind.”

Viewers will first see Estelle on their screens next month when she has a run in with George (Tony Maudsley) about the cost of her mother’s funeral.

However, when she bumps into Glenda, the row is forgotten as they recall their time on cruise ships.

Estelle is soon trying to convince Glenda to buy into her theatre school franchise Little Big Shotz, but what will Eileen think when George offers to help his sister?

Ruthie Henshall:

“Estelle is delighted to find her old friend Glenda and share a show tune or two to remember times spent entertaining on board cruises. I am so excited and delighted to be on the street where so many brilliant actors strut, and have strutted, their stuff.”

Ruthie has appeared in some of the biggest musicals of the past thirty years, including Cats, Miss Saigon, Crazy For You, Oliver! and A Chorus Line.

Her television appearances include The Case, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law & Order and as a judge on Dancing On Ice.
