The Traitors star Fay Greaves learns ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’

During the visit, Fay, who is also Head of School Welfare at a school and an ex National League Basketball player and coach, got stuck in with the session run by project worker Dave Harris. In keeping with The Traitors, Fay took on some mini basketball missions which put her skills to the test alongside the local talented young players.

Fay Greaves:

“I had such a brilliant time meeting the young people supported by Together Everyone Achieves More. It’s been great to see first-hand how  funding from BBC Children in Need is making a difference to young lives and providing them with the opportunity to learn team building skills, basketball skills and give them a place where they can feel safe and secure, while meeting new friends in the local community and building positive relationships. I loved taking part in the ‘shoot and score’ basketball hoop challenge and  met some really talented young basketball players. Sports really is a great way to come together, learn from each other and have fun. ”

TEAM currently receives a grant of over £30,000 from BBC Children in Need to deliver inclusive basketball sessions that improve children and young people’s wellbeing as well as their social and physical development.  Young people supported by the project are coached in technical skills and team building and each session provides young people with the opportunity to learn the value of teamwork and setting goals whilst building their self-esteem, concentration and focus.

TEAM is also funded by BBC Children in Need and BBC Radio 1xtra’s, We Move Fund Youth Social Action Fund, which aims to reach Black children and young people in local communities and give them opportunities to have their voices heard.

Following the team challenge during the visit, Fay, the young people taking part, and project worker, David sat together in a circle to discuss the challenge, and reflect on the importance of resilience and team work.

TEAM, Project Worker, David Harris:

“Its’s been so great meeting Fay and introducing her to the young people supported by the project, she’s a great team player with brilliant basketball skills! The young people were thrilled to meet her and enjoyed spending time with her discussing basketball and why they love the sport so much. This funding from BBC Children in Need allows us to deliver basketball sessions that engage participants and encourage them to develop life-long skills which help create a positive mindset and support their mental and emotional wellbeing.”

BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be, and are committed to funding the grassroots organisations and project workers across the UK, that provide children and young people with vital support to help them navigate the challenges in their lives.
