Nigel Harman has joined the cast of Casualty.
The former EastEnders star will be playing Max Cristie, Holby ED’s new Clinical Lead.
The actor said of his new role:
“”I’m honoured and grateful to be joining the cast of Casualty. Many pals have donned the famous scrubs over the years and had a ball, so for me it was an easy decision. With Max the viewers can expect a character who leads with his heart and not always his head. Never afraid to get in a scrape or two, yet loyal to the end even if it means putting himself in danger.”
The BBC have described the character as charming, brilliant, and lovable. However, the addition to the ED will not please everyone, particularly Will Beck’s character, Dylan. Immediately, it’s evident that Dylan and Max have an unresolved history, which goes back to medical school.
Viewers will see Nigel on screen as Max later this month.
On his first shift, he finds himself thrust right into the thick of the action – it’s life and death from the get-go.
Jon Sen, Executive Producer for BBC Studios said:
“We are thrilled to be welcoming Nigel to the cast of Casualty. When we conceived the character of Max we knew we needed an actor with craft, charm and charisma and we approached Nigel knowing he’d be the perfect choice. We were over the moon when he agreed to play the role and from what we’ve seen so far, Nigel’s creating an iconic character who is set to stir things up within the Emergency Department. We can’t wait for the audience to meet Max.”
Nigel is best known for his role as Dennis Rickman in EastEnders which he played for three years in the early noughties. Dennis was the illegitimate son of Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) who had been from 1978 to 1989 the landlord of The Queen Vic pub and a small-time crook.
During his time in Walford Dennis married his ‘sister by adoption’ Sharon (Letitia Dean) and along with the Mitchell clan sought revenge for the death of dad Den (in February 2005) when the perpetrator Chrissie (Tracy-Ann Oberman) was exposed. Dennis departed the soap in December 2005 when the character was fatally stabbed at the start of the New Year Fireworks.
The actor has since appeared on the stage at several well-known venues with roles in Shrek – The Musical, I Can’t Sing, Guys and Dolls, and Mamma Mia to name but a few. His other TV work includes Downton Abbey, Miss Marple – The Mirror Crack’d, Hotel Babylon and City of Vice, while his film credits include Telstar and Blood Diamond.
