It was the 32-year-old wildlife cameraman and presenter who won the glitterball trophy on Saturday, beating three other couples – Fleur East and Vito Coppola, Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, and Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez.
Throughout the final, the finalists performed three times: a judges’ pick, their favourite routine, and a no-holds-barred show dance.
Before revisiting their Couple’s Choice routine to Jerusamela, Hamza and Jowita performed their Salsa to Ecuador for the judges and a show dance to Let’s Face the Music and Dance.
The judges asked Molly and Carlos to revisit their Quickstep to Love On Top, before the duo performed a show dance to Kiss and had another go at their Rumba to All The Man That I Need.
The judges asked to see Fleur and Vito’s Samba to Hot Hot Hot again. In addition to their show dance to Find Me, the pair re-enacted their couple’s choice routine to Destiny’s Child Megamix.
Helen and Gorka did their jive to Tightrope again for the judges. Their show dance was to Shine by Emeli Sande, and they chose to perform their couple’s choice to Mein Herr again.
With 119 points, East and Coppola topped the judges’ leader board, followed by Skelton and Marquez on 116 points. Rainford and Gu received a total of 115 points, and Yassin and Przystal came bottom on 113 points. But the public vote ultimately decided who lifted the coveted glitterball trophy for 2022.
Of his victory, Yassin said:
“It’s hard to describe how I feel. I want to thank one person in particular. Jowita, you are an angel disguised as a human being. You are amazing. Thank you to everyone out there for voting for us.”
Przystal said that Hamza was proof that “anything is possible”, noting that he had “pigeon toes” when he entered the competition. She added it had been an honour to help him win.
Saturday’s final show also featured a performance from Florence + The Machine with My Love.
