Pop producers Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman are to be reunited by Channel 5 for a documentary looking back at their ‘hit factory’ of the 1980s and 90s.
Greg Barnett, commissioning editor for Channel 5:
“Stock, Aitken and Waterman created the soundtrack to the late 1980s and early 1990s. Without their expertise and talent the world would not have enjoyed the huge success of artistes such as Kylie, Jason, Rick and Bananarama and so many more.”
The three-part series will feature interviews with their former chart toppers Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Sonia and Jason Donovan to name just a few. Fellow music mogul Simon Cowell also takes part, noting on Stock, Aitken and Waterman that “I really do believe the three of them are geniuses”
The episodes, to air in hour-long slots, takes a look back at the highs and lows of the threesome pop makers from their domination of the UK Top 20 to fallouts, fractured friendships and court cases.
The production will bring to screens, along with the new interviews, rare and unseen footage charting how a handshake outside a London pub brought the trio together.
Greg Barnett, commissioning editor for Channel 5:
“We are delighted to reunite Mike, Matt and Pete to talk exclusively for the first time together on television about their astounding success and the trials and tribulations behind those huge, unforgettable hits.”
The series will be produced by Lonesome Pine for Channel 5.
