The PM of NZ joined the ITV Daytime legend at TV Centre earlier today for a wee chat…
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has told today’s Lorraine that she looks forward to the day her being a female world leader “passes without comment”. Joining host Lorraine Kelly live in the studio, the PM also spoke about her response to the pandemic, her daughter’s own ‘briefcase’ and breaking down barriers in politics.
Lorraine asked her about New Zealand’s bold approach to the pandemic when she locked down the country, and if, looking back, she’d do anything differently.
“Of course,” she said. “If you look back on something, and you can’t think of something you would have changed, you’re probably not looking hard enough.
“So absolutely, but the overall strategy, no, because I know it saved lives. I know it did.”
Of being a female world leader, she said: “I look forward to the day that it passes without comment.
“I’m the third female Prime Minister but I keep thinking, in 2022, none of these things should be groundbreaking anymore. I look forward to the day when it passes without comment.”
