Channel 5, today announces two new series commissions which form part of the channel’s expansion bringing original programming to daytime.
The Great Auction Showdown with Paul Martin – across eighty episodes – is to be produced by STV Studios in Scotland, and Holiday Home Show – also for eighty episodes – is to be produced by Raise the Roof Productions and Motion Content Group.
The Great Auction Showdown with Paul Martin will play out stripped across the week, where much-loved antique dealer, Paul Martin, will go head-to-head with a rival expert as they compete to make the most at auction in a fun, yet fiercely competitive new format.
Filmed throughout the country, each episode will see the competing experts take part in a number of entertaining ‘challenges’ before auctioning their goods at the end of each day. From persuading the public to let them sell their beloved family heirlooms, to beating the clock, and discovering the towns’ most valuable items, to standing on the rostrum and convincing the public to part with their hard-earned cash – who will be crowned Britain’s best auctioneer of the week?
Craig Hunter, Creative Director of Factual at STV Studios:
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Channel 5 for this fun and competitive new format. Paul is the consummate host and pitting him against new experts each week promises to be a fast paced and energetic showdown. We can’t wait to see what the public challenge Paul and his rivals to sell.”
Holiday Home Show will be presented by Amanda Lamb, with JB Gill and Sam Pinkham. In this light-hearted and entertaining competitive series Amanda, JB and Sam go head to head as they travel the length and breadth of Europe and the UK to find the very best holiday rentals. This new format will showcase four amazing holiday homes in every episode, highlighting the best places to stay all over Europe, including the UK, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Croatia.
Every episode visits a different location, showing some of the best holiday homes they have on offer as well as offering great tips for what you can do while you’re there. The properties range from luxury and boutique to budget and quirky. But all have that special wow factor.
Executive producers Sarah Walmsley and Andrew Jackson at Raise The Roof Productions:
“We are so excited to be making this series and thrilled that Ben has such faith in the format. A big order like this is brilliant for the company and for the production community in Scotland. The show is such a breath of fresh air, not only are we travelling all over Europe, but we have struck gold with our presenters. From the moment they met, there was real chemistry between them and they all really care about the properties they’re reviewing which brings such joy to the shows.”
Last year Channel 5 also revealed it was reviving, for daytime, the Cash in the Attic format previously seen on the BBC.
