Charlie de Melo is leaving Coronation Street after five years in the role as Imran Habeeb.

“Charlie’s loved his time on the soap but the time is right to try new things,” a source told the The Sun

The actor is expected to bow out on screen over the summer, however ITV bosses have not given any indication as to what the circumstances surrounding his final scenes will be.

Imran is currently keeping the fact he had a one-night stand with Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) a secret from his partner Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor). But, with Abi set to go off the rails over Kevin’s reaction to her infidelity in upcoming scenes, it may only be a matter of time before Toyah is in the loop too…

Charlie has played the part of Imran since 2017 when Imran moved in with his sister Rana (Bhavna Limbachia) following the breakdown of his marriage. The character went on to form a professional partnership with fellow solicitor Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).

Despite being caught two-timing her with her sister Leanne (Jane Danson), he settled down in a relationship with Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and it was while defending their foster daughter Kelly (Millie Gibson) over her involvement in Seb’s murder that his much-regretted one night stand with Abi occurred.

Coronation Street currently airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30pm on ITV
