OTD 1957: Lunch Box viewers meet their stars

On this Day: February 20th, 1957.

ATV Midlands News reported on the throng of fans that await the cast and crew of the pioneering daytime series Lunch Box.

Presenter Noele Gordon, producer Reg Watson, musicians the Jerry Allen Trio and ATV producer Ned Sherrin are seen in the crowd. The show aired live five days a week from the Aston Studios near Birmingham. Running for over 1000 editions between 1957 and 1964.

The show commanded a huge following. When a special from Nottingham Forest FC expected 3,000 viewers to attend and 24,000 turned up its popularity couldn’t be denied. The series saw an album release as well as a spin-off restaurant in Leicester.
