More and more are hearing on the grape Vine…
Jeremy Vine, Channel 5’s morning news and current affairs programme, had its most successful year on record in 2021, the broadcaster has revealed.
Daniel Pearl, Vice President Commissioning Editor, ViacomCBS:
“We’re delighted to see audiences engage with it so strongly at a time when appetite for news stories has never been bigger.”
The programme averaged a 6.01% share across the year, with both ABC1s and 16-54s up year-on-year 2% and 6% respectively. It was also the second highest year on record for Channel 5 weekday share across the 9.15am-11.15am slot. The confirmation of the ratings success closely follows a successful start to 2022 with the launch of Jeremy Vine Extra, which extended the daily programme by one hour to include even more debate and discussion.
Hosted by Storm, the show’s extended programme continues the nation’s liveliest conversation until 12.15pm each day exploring key themes, great moments and the big stories which emerge earlier in the morning as well as reacting to breaking news.
The series launched with Matthew Wright as host in 2000 as The Wright Stuff, running until 2018.
Daniel Pearl, Vice President Commissioning Editor, ViacomCBS:
“Jeremy Vine holds a unique place in British broadcasting as a news and current affairs programme which hears directly from the public and allows them to have their voice heard.”
