A new study has revealed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are the most talked about Royal couple of 2021. The research conducted by Lucky Creek analysed global Google Trends data for the past year to establish which Royal couple had caused searches to skyrocket the most, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex taking the top spot.
Meghan and Harry were searched for 64% more than all other Royal couples combined and more specifically searched 367% more William and Kate during 2021. The interest in the couple peaked during their historic sit-down interview with TV legend Oprah Winfrey in March, causing headlines across the globe. The interview was also the most talked-about Royal moment of 2021, being searched for 566% more than any other Royal event, including Prince Philip’s funeral, the second most talked about Royal story of the year.
The couple who stepped down from official Royal duties in 2020 were talked about 367% more than the second most popular Royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton. William and Kate’s most talked-about moment of 2021 was their ten-year wedding anniversary which was recognised with a BBC documentary and intimate Instagram post from the couple. The anniversary caused interest in the couple to rise 410% above their yearly average.
The Queen was the third most talked about Royal, alongside her late husband, Prince Philip. The Queen was searched for the most in April during her husband’s funeral where she was pictured sitting alone in St George’s Chapel, with searches for the monarch surging 279%.
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were the least talked about Royal couple of 2021 whilst the rising star of the Royal family being Lady Louise Windsor who was talked about 165% more in 2021 from 2020, with interest Prince Edward’s daughter peaking during Prince Philip’s funeral.
