Sky support NSPCC and Childline with mobile data idea…

Sky Mobile customers can share their ‘spare data’ with the NSPCC to help fund Childline this Christmas.

With the festive season in full swing, minds have turned to planning this year’s festivities. Whilst Christmas has always been the season of giving, this year it seems that giving back will be taking centre stage, with positive sentiment towards festive charity donations up 35% in the past 6 months, compared to this time last year[i]. What’s more, there’s also been a 64% increase in people donating via their mobile devices.

Mike McGrath, Head of Partnerships at the NSPCC:

“We know that for many children Christmas can be really tough. It can be especially difficult for those who are struggling with their mental health or are in homes that are unsafe. Last year we saw a record number of children get in touch with us about loneliness.”

This Christmas, Sky Mobile has teamed up with leading children’s charity, the NSPCC, and is asking customers to help fund its vital Childline service over the Christmas period. All customers need to do is donate their spare data, which Sky Mobile will then turn into a monetary donation for the charity.

According to Sky data their customers have saved on average 93GB of data each, from their unused data automatically rolling over to their Sky Piggybank every month. They can now help fund the NSPCC – providing support to children across the UK. By heading to the My Sky app, customers can contribute either 5GB, 20GB or 50GB, with no limit on how many times they can donate. Customers have until 22nd December to donate their data.

Sky opens new flagship shop at Westfield, White City

Sky Mobile is hoping to reach 144,000GB of donations, which when converted to cash will fund two days of the NSPCC’s Childline service over the Christmas period.

Mike McGrath, Head of Partnerships at the NSPCC:

“When a child needs help Childline can be a lifeline. This generous donation from Sky Mobile customers, will help Childline counsellors to answer a child’s call for help this Christmas. Thanks to this support, the NSPCC can be here, ready to listen to children across the UK.”

In other Sky company news, at the start of the month, they unveiled their new flagship shop at Westfield, White City. This is Sky’s second bricks and mortar shop in London and builds on its existing presence in the capital with head office locations and Sky Studios in close proximity.

One year on from opening the first Sky shop in the UK at Liverpool One, Sky has now expanded its retail footprint across the country, launching shops in some of the UK’s biggest and busiest retail destinations such as Trinity Leeds, Metrocentre Gateshead, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, and Sheffield Meadowhall. It is Sky’s eleventh shop in the country and the first since the launch of Sky Glass, the streaming TV from Sky.

Sky shops provide space for customers to speak with Sky’s expert advisors and test out the company’s latest innovations.

Sky Mobile customers can donate their data via the MySky app or visit sky.com/NSPCCDonation. For more details on Sky Mobile visit sky.com/mobile.
