Olly Alexander favorite with bets for Doctor Who role

The BBC announced they are in need of a new doctor.

Years and Years singer Olly Alexander is the 7/2 favourite with Star Sports to replace Jodie Whittaker as the next Doctor Who. Alexander, known on-screen for his role as Richie Tozer on Channel 4 drama It’s A Sin, leads the betting by a distance to be the next Time Lord, with Damned United star Michael Sheen and Love Actually’s Kris Marshall next best placed at 12/1.

Also at 12/1 is Michaela Cole, who won awards for her role as Arabella Essiedu on I May Destroy You, while IT Crowd funnyman Richard Ayoade is the same price.

“Doctor Who fans are keen to see who will be the next Time Lord after Jodie Whittaker, and Years and Years singer Olly Alexander is our favourite to be cast for the role at 7/2.

“BBC producers are already familiar with the Alexander after he impressed in his role as Richie Tozer on ‘It’s a Sin’ earlier this year, and it may only be a matter of time before we see him back on our screens in the sci-fi phenomenon.”- Luke Tarr, Head of PR at Star Sports

Yesterday the BBC announced that Jodie Whittaker and Showrunner Chris Chibnall – who made the historic decision to cast Jodie as the first female Doctor – are both to depart the series in 2022. Chris succeeded Steven Moffatt as Head Writer and Executive Producer of the cult favourite. His first series, which was also Jodie’s first series, was transmitted in autumn 2018.

BBC One was already planning to broadcast two specials in 2022, however has now ordered an ‘additional feature-length adventure’ to say goodbye to the Thirteenth doctor. The special will form part of the Beeb’s Centenary celebrations.

Doctor Who will also be back on air for a six-part series this autumn.
